A Foodlovers Guide to the Coffs Coast A Foodlovers Guide to the Coffs Coast The Jetty Beach House Coffs Harbour

THE JETTY BEACH HOUSE - Coffs Harbour, NSW

Cray-ving Bahn Mi...

The Jetty Beach House can be the destination or the go-to when you don’t know where to go. Different days offer different entertainment – they’ve hosted brunches, Reggae Dub events, acoustic singers, oyster happy hours, comedy, drag trivia, and numerous parties.

Step inside and take a seat in paradise.

Soak up the casual vibe, while you luxuriate in that 180 degree ocean view.

It offers day trippers and locals stunning harbour views, without getting in its own way.

Customers range in dress codes and demographics – locals in glam frocks and heels, or shorts and sandals, quirky athleisure wear, or visiting country people wearing Akubra hats they actually wear on actual farms.

That diversity is what I find wonderfully unique and authentic about this beach house with the gazillion dollar view. Wherever you’re seated – indoors with a view of the old Jetty and Marina, or viewing the vibrant green of Mutton Bird Island from your seat on the balcony or bean bag on the lawn – you have a harbour view.

The Jetty Beach House now has a front of house person to welcome you and hand you a menu. I hope this idea spreads to other dining venues on the Coffs Coast.

Venues cannot underestimate the value of that initial warm welcome.

Over the last 2 years, The Jetty Beach House kitchen and menu have seen many changes. To create menus to satisfy a wide ranging demographic is challenging – burgers, fish and chips, steaks, lobster linguine … and my choice of Crayfish Bahn Mi.

How could I say no to Mooloolaba Champagne Crayfish w Asian herb slaw, chilli jam & kewpie mayo stuffed into a warm baguette?

My Vietnamese inspired Bahn Mi included juicy chunks of fresh crayfish; however the chilli jam was too dominant for delicate seafood. What makes a bahn mi so great is its simplicity – protein with simple, fresh, crunchy salad vegetables. If anyone’s asking, I’d ditch add a zesty blob of house made aioli or sriracha mayonnaise instead.

My companion’s steak was cooked medium-rare as requested – not always a given in pubs or hotels these days.

I’ve visited The Jetty Beach House on many different occasions – for casual catch ups with oysters and wine, structured business events, comedy, live music – and that versatility is The Jetty Beach House’s strength.

The Jetty Beach House ticks a lot of boxes – and reminds you how incredible Coffs Harbour is as you gaze across the ocean view and maybe spot a whale or two.
